Kristy Short

Kristy Kay (Daniels) Short, daughter of the late Thomas J. and Jessie K. Daniels was born April 29, 1952, in Aurora, Missouri. She passed away on April 9, 2022, at the age of 69 after a prolonged battle with Frontotemporal Dementia and a recent diagnosis of Acute Leukemia.

Born and raised in Aurora, Kristy graduated from Aurora High School in 1970. She attended Southwest Baptist University for one year with hopes of becoming a flight attendant. 

She married David William Short in 1971, and they were members of the Army National Guard. Their son, David Daniel Short was born in 1972. 








David and Kristy began working together as Ambulance Service team members in Aurora located in the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home. In 1976 they moved to Stockton, Missouri and continued to service the Cedar County Ambulance District for several more years. During this time Kristy became a certified EMT. In 1983 their daughter, Kimberly Beth Short was born. In 1984 they relocated to Mount Vernon, Missouri and further assisted with the Ambulance Service operation for Lawrence County. In 1986 David and Kristy divorced. 

Kristy relocated to Aurora in 1989 and began her 19-year career working for Walmart as a sales associate in the Garden Center. During this time Kristy helped to care for her Aunt Ruby Kappler and eventually her parents Tommy and Jessie Daniels. With a very loving heart, Kristy continued to care for her parents until Tommy’s death in 2002 and Jessie’s death in 2008. 

In 2010 Kristy relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada to spend time with her daughter and grandson. In 2013 Kristy relocated to Kansas City, Missouri and began working for the State of Missouri assisting adults with physical and mental disabilities. In 2019 Kristy was officially diagnosed with FTD Frontotemporal Dementia and relocated to Emerald Care Center in Claremore, Oklahoma to be closer to her son.

Kristy is survived by her brother, Rodney and his wife, Betty Daniels of Goodman, Missouri. Kristy is also survived by her son, David and his wife Brandi Short of Bixby, Oklahoma, and daughter, Kimberly Crawford and her husband Chris Crawford of Bethany, Oklahoma. Kristy’s grandchildren include, Logan and Gabbi Short of Bixby, Oklahoma and Gavin Crawford of Bethany, Oklahoma.

Kristy was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy, and Jessie Daniels.

A graveside service under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Histio Cure Foundation (HistioCure.org) to help support research efforts to one day eliminate LCH Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis that has affected our family.
