Glenda Harris

(From Schaetter Funeral Home)

Glenda Lourie was born to Luther and Norma Robertson in the family home near Squires, MO, on December 7, 1946. She was the fifth child for the family with 4 older brothers.

When Glenda was 18 months old the family moved to a dairy farm near Lamar, MO, where she lived until she married.

During high school at Lamar, MO, she worked for the family’s dairy serving ice cream to customers who loved her beautiful smile. During her sophomore year at Lamar High School she was crowned homecoming queen. She graduated in 1965.

After high school she attended Kansas State College(now Pittsburg State University ) for 2 years. While at KSC Glenda was chosen as the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi. She and Jim Harris were married on August 20, 1967, and just celebrated 55 years of marriage. She supported the family while Jim finished his senior year at KSC. The couple lived in Denver while Jim was in USAF tech school. While Jim was serving in Vietnam after his graduation she stayed in Missouri with family and gave birth to their first son, Chad Michael.

The couple spent the last 2 years of Jim’s Air Force enlistment at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. After the Air Force they decided to settle in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and lived there for 47 years. During that time the couple was blessed with their second son, Cory Dalton in 1974.

Glenda was a wonderful stay at home mother and provided great care and guidance for the boys. When the boys were older she was employed at Alamogordo Eye Clinic for 15 years. During her retirement she stayed busy with gardening, reading, hiking, playing bridge, international travel and traveling in the couple’s RV.

She was active in PEO in Alamogordo and Fredericksburg. She served as president in Alamogordo. She was a life member of the Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital Guild. In the 1980s she went on many medical trips to Mexico with the Alamogordo Rotary Club and assisted with cataract surgery for the poor of rural Mexico. This was an important project for her.

In 2018 the couple moved to Fredericksburg, Texas, where they were welcomed with open arms. Glenda and Jim had always enjoyed the Texas Hill Country and its music.

Glenda touched the hearts of everyone she met. She had a beautiful heart and smile.
