(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Cathy Lynn (Coble) Gurnee, age 62, of Columbus passed away at 2:56 pm, Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in St. Louis Missouri following a stay in Freeman West Hospital, Joplin MO before being transferred to St Louis. Her death was unexpected.
She was born March 11, 1960 to Robert “Bob” Coble and Margaret “Peggy” (Hamilton) Coble. She grew up in Columbus and attended school there, graduating in 1978.
Cathy worked at Weston’s accounting and H & R Block during high school and later at Stanley Bank. She also worked at Winfield Grocery Store, Ace Electric and most recently at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandson. She also enjoyed fishing, cooking, trying new recipes and growing her own vegetables. At family gatherings, she was known for making beautiful and delicious vegetable trays and salads.
She will be remembered for her laugh and bringing joy to others with her smile.
She married the love of her life, Shane Gurnee on September 18, 1980 in Winfield, KS. He preceded her in death February 11, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her father, Bob Coble.
She is survived by two sons, Shane Gurnee II (fiancé Jennifer Graham), Arma, KS, and Skyler Gurnee, Elsworth, KS; her mother, Peggy Coble, Columbus; one brother, Rick Coble, Carl Junction, MO; one sister, Cheryl Reed (Delvin), Altamont, KS; her grandson, Adam Gurnee; her father -in-law, Jack (Barbara) Gurnee, Oswego, two brothers-in-law, Jake Gurnee (Cheryl), Columbus, and John Gurnee (Monica), Oswego, KS; two sisters-in-law, Shelly Keener (Jeff), Webb City, MO, Trish Shuler (Roger), Joplin; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 29, 2022 at McKee Cemetery, rural Columbus, KS.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00pm, Friday, October 28 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS.
