(From Ozark Funeral Home)Mary Ellen Amey, 86, of Washburn, Missouri, departed this life on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Solace House in Joplin, Missouri.
Mary entered this life on September 25, 1936 in Mohegan, West Virginia born to the late Julius and Birdie (Jenks) Johnston.
She married Thomas Edward Amey, Sr. on June of 1952 and to this union six children were born.
Her husband became disabled from an accident working in the coal mines and Mary became his caregiver for over 40 years. Mary was a Christian all of her life. She loved gardening, canning and taking care of her husband and children. She was a singer/songwriter and has many songs in the Library of Congress.
Mary was an avid reader, her favorite author was Zane Grey, her most loved titles were “Riders of the Purple Sage” and “The Man of the Forest”. She loved the movie, Secretariat. Later when she eyesight failed, she began listening to audible books and carried on her love of reading. Mary was the was a big fan of Blake Shelton and enjoyed listening to his song, “God’s Country”. She always hoped to get to meet him. She will be remembered as a loving, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Edward Amey, Sr.; daughter, Peggy Epling; a son, Christopher Sterling Amey; granddaughters, Amber Ruthellen Epling and Rebecca Gayle Epling.

Mary is survived by her children, Joyce Elaine Sidwell of Centerton, Arkansas, Laura Gayle Epling of Washburn, Missouri, Thomas Amey, Jr. “T-Bone” and wife, Lillie of Kingston, Oklahoma, Timothy Amey of Fulton, Missouri; grandchildren, Angela Schibi, Joshua Epling, Christopher Epling, Willa Ball, Brooke Epling, Joseph Michael Epling, Sr., Joshua Amey, April Dawn Reid, Elisha and wife Danielle, Abigail Schureman, Maggie Amey, Elizabeth Daley and Zachary Amey; great grandchildren, Kaden, Katie, Devyn, Olivia, Samuel, Noah, Maddie, Bryson, Kinsley, Michael, Rhythm, Oaklee, Boston, Lyric, Benzley, Bostynn, Blaze, Dylan, Cambria and Ronan, Jericho and Brenton;’ great great grandchild, Lettie; along with a host of other family and friends who will dearly miss Mary.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Monday, October 31, 2022 at the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes, the family will receive friends at this time.
