Al Striegel

(From Parker Mortuary)

Alfred “Al” Lawrence Striegel, age 85, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, October 27th, 2022 at his home with family by his side.

Al always said he wasn’t born but arrived on July 4th, 1937 in Joplin, Missouri to the late union of William and Florence Striegel.

He was united in marriage to Geraldine “Jerry” Jones on May 6th, 1961. Together they were blessed with 51 years before her passing on July 15th, 2012.

To many he was known as Al; to his family he was dad or papa; and to his dear friends he was Alfie. Al worked a full career as a Maintenance Supervisor at the Joplin Globe, where he retired in 1998. He loved drinking his favorite beer, Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR). Not only did he enjoy PBRs, but he was an avid memorabilia collector of all things PBR.

Al was one of the funniest people you would have ever met. He could make conversation with anyone over anything. He was always telling jokes. He enjoyed tinkering in his workshop and always had spare tools just in case somebody was in need. But he would tell you that if he didn’t have a certain tool or item then you didn’t need it.

Al loved soap operas, old western movies, karaoke, casinos, and especially his naps. He received oreos as gifts for any and all occasions, as this was his favorite snack. Al is finally reunited with the love of his life, Jerry, in heaven and if you would’ve asked him the day before he passed if he was ready to go, he would’ve replied with, “I was ready the day before yesterday”.

Al is survived by his three children, Cindy Olds and her husband Robert, Alfred Joe Striegel and his wife Theresa, Laura Wehr and her husband Jeff; two siblings, Delores Reaves and Don Striegel; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Richardson and her wife Chlea Richardson, Robbie Olds and his wife Shanna Olds, Allen Striegel, Heather Pease and her husband Mike Pease, Alison Hart, Miranda Striegel, Emily Hart, Taegan Barney; and 10 great-grandchildren Dakota Dykens, Madi Olds, Haizlee Hart, Aria Hart, Jewel Olds, Harper Pease, Bennett Pease, Justice Torrez, Jonah Younge, Jordan Younge.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made out to the Elks and Eagles Lodge.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 1st, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery near Al and Jerry’s “Condo” mausoleum with Joe Striegel, Allen Striegel, Mike Pease, Dakota Dykens, Jeff Wehr, Robert Olds, Rob Olds, and Chlea Richardson serving as pallbearers. Al will be laid to rest with a can of PBR in his pocket per his request and two lollipops in his shirt pocket that he always carried for his great-grandchildren, Harper and Bennett.

Funeral arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
