B. J. Cherry

Benjamin Joseph “B.J.” Cherry, age 76, a lifetime resident of Newton County, passed from this life on Saturday, October 22, 2022, after a sudden illness. He was born February 9, 1946, to the late Benjamin and Josephine Cherry.


B.J. graduated from Neosho High School in 1964. After high school, he joined the Army National Guard and served twelve years. 








He served his community as a volunteer fireman with the Neosho Fire Department for many years. B.J. owned and operated B.J.’s wrecker service for more than forty years. He was a gifted repairman with the ability to repair almost anything.

In 1968 he married Glenda Sue (Hopper) Cherry in Granby, Missouri; they shared nearly fifty-four years together, and she survives. 

He is also survived by his son Kevin and grandsons Austin and Aaron, of Granby, Missouri.








B.J. is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Krista Cherry, his only sister Carolyn Roland, and his brother-in-law Frank Roland, in addition to his parents.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Granby Memorial Cemetery in Granby, Missouri. Martin Crews will officiate. Open viewing will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 25, at the Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, Missouri. 

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in B.J.’s memory to the Granby Miracle Church in Granby, Missouri.
