Joyce Maggard

Joyce Maggard, 63, of Sarcoxie, Missouri passed away October 13, 2022 after a short battle with cancer and a long struggle with C.O.P.D.

Joyce was born September 13, 1959 in Joplin, Missouri to Walter (Slim) and Betty Edwards. She graduated from Sarcoxie High School. In high school she participated in twirling, sports, art club, Pep Club, FHA, FBLA and was on the honor roll.

On January 1, 1980 Joyce married Gary Maggard at Reeds Baptist Church, Reeds, Missouri. Romance for these two started when they were teenagers. It was a world wind fire and ice romance that lasted thirteen years.








Joyce worked at Juvenile Shoe, Junior Bonnow’s Trophy Shop, Cool Brook Cabinet Shop, Charlie and Doris Hodgson Painting, Fairview Greenhouse, as well as logged and junked. Joyce had several employers tell her she could out work most men! Joyce enjoyed taking her kids, grandkids, family and friends to the creek. Her name for all she brought to the creek with her was “The Creek Monsters”. 

She also enjoyed sports, riding horses, the outdoors, gardening, house plants, cooking, playing Greedy , riding on a “Hog” H.D., the beach, the mountains, good ole Southwest, Missouri and going to church at Center Point.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Chasity and Summer Maggard;, ex-husband Gary (Bev) Maggard; bonus children, Debra Leiser, Kathryn Jones, Stephen Maggard, Michelle Gryskiewicz; brothers, Joe (Gayla) Edwards, Jerry (Sandy) Edwards, Jack (Pat) Edwards; sister-in-law, Lucille Edwards; sisters, Jeanie Root and Jennie Edwards; grandchildren, Betty, Tommy and Jack Plopper, Nicole (Brandon) Rickman, Dominic and Jennifer Franklin, Danica, Stephen, Jason, Chase, Haley, Jesse, Zander, Carissa, James, Dakshi; great-grandchildren, December and Braxtin; Aunt Connie and Uncle Don Adams, Uncle Bill Bethany, a host of many family members and friends. Joyce was called Mom, Nutty Nanna and Nanna Juice by many. If someone needed a place to stay Joyce would make room one way or another. She will be missed by many.








Joyce was preceded in death by one son; Austin H.Maggard; her parents, Slim and Betty Edwards; brother, Jim Edwards; sister, Janet Edwards; son-in-law, Tom Plopper; nephews, Jarel and Kevin Edwards; brother-in-law, Adam Root; grandparents Walter and Josie Edward; grandparents, Hugh and Jennie Reynolds; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joyce’s celebration of life will be November 6, 2022 at the Sarcoxie Community Building from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with Seth Root officiating. After Seth is finish speaking, Joyce wanted everyone to bring their favorite potluck dish. The meat will be provided. Please stay and reminisce with us.

Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Housh-Goodwin Funeral in Sarcoxie, Missouri.
