Joyce Smith

Joyce Lee Smith, beloved mother, and grandmother died peacefully in her bed in Neosho, Missouri, at the age of 88.

Joyce is survived by her five children, Michael Smith and wife, Debbie of Louisville, Kentucky; Craig Smith and wife Helena of Parma, Ohio; Pam Smith of Springfield, Missouri; Daniel Smith and wife, Janelle of Neosho, Missouri; Kevin Smith of North Ridgeville, Ohio; and her brother James “Jimmy” Purcell and wife Kandy of Mishawaka, Indiana. 








She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Llyod Smith; two sisters, Jean Purcell and Kay Desmet; and her brother, Charles Moss. Additional survivors include seventeen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Joyce was born February 16, 1934, to Noble Simmons Moss and Senora Alberta Shemwell in La Center, Kentucky. She graduated high school in Indiana and obtained her Civil Service certificate to work as a secretary until she married Raymond Smith on June 28, 1952, and began her family.








Joyce was a devoted mom and grandma. She enjoyed baking, cooking, hosting get-togethers, playing games (especially Rook), and shopping. She was also a devout Christian and regularly attended services at Landmark Tabernacle in Joplin, Missouri, as long as her health permitted. When her health no longer permitted, she still made time for prayer and to read her bible every day.

Services will be held Friday, October 21, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Neosho, Missouri. Reverend Kevin Prisock will officiate. Joyce will be laid to rest with her husband at the Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the funeral home.
