Lowell Dean Cloud, age 80, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Dean was born July 3, 1936 in Clever, Missouri, son of the late Ellis Cloud and Agnes Winegardner Cloud. He graduated from Jasper High School where he played football, basketball, baseball, and ran track. He served in the United States Air Force, and returned to Joplin where he began his career with the Missouri Department of Transportation, working with the Highway Patrol as a weight supervisor. He played softball with the Blendville Christian Church Softball Team, was a member of the YMCA, volunteered with the Jasper County Sheriff's Posse, the Newton County Sheriff's Department, was a member of the Limousine Association, and the last several years was an active member of Park Plaza Christian Church where he served on the Church Board, and was an Elder. He retired in 1991 from the Missouri Highway Patrol, and then worked another 8 years with Sitton Motor Lines, retiring in 1999.
Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Viola; daughter, Cynthia A. Cloud of Joplin; a son, Gary L. Cloud and wife Kerri of Tallahassee, Florida; grandchildren, Morgan Rhodes, Taylor Beck, Madison Cloud, and Dakota Cloud; great-grandchildren, Rhys, Hudson, and Harper.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Private family services are planned for a later date.
