Jack Worthy

Jack Eugene Worthy age 94, of Joplin passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Joplin Health & Rehab. 

He was born on July 12, 1922 in Purcell, Missouri to Fred Worthy and Eva (Sillee) Worthy. Jack was the owner of Jack’s Diesel Services until his retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #335 A.F. & A.M. in Joplin; Scottish Rite Temple in Joplin; Abou Ben Adhem Temple in Springfield, and a member of the Joplin Shriners Club. Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors and was never without a pet. He also served on the Airport Drive Water Board as past president and board member for 10 years. 

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jo Anna Hoover; brothers, Bud Byler and Bill Byler; 3 sisters, Maxine Dove, Helen Worthy, and Beulah Worthy (infant). He is survived by his wife, Janet Worthy of Joplin; daughters, Jacqueline VanFleet of Tulsa, Jennifer Wodlinger of Santa Rosa, California; brothers, Kenneth Byler of Topeka, Kansas, Tommy Byler of Sherman, Texas; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. 

The family would like to give special recognition to Bill Seward a lifelong friend for all his care and friendship throughout the years. 

The family will have private graveside services on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Joplin Human Society in his memory.
