Elizabeth Trembly

Elizabeth Waitstill Trembly passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by family on Sunday August 14, 2016 in Joplin, Missouri.

Elizabeth was born in Eden Township, Decatur County, Iowa on March 18, 1916. Her parents were Martin Ethan and Cassie (Clark) Hampton and siblings were John Issac, Mary Arlene, Marjorie Josephine, James Michael and Martin Samuel.

She graduated from Leon High School in 1934 with perfect attendance.

She married Donald Alvin Trembly on October 28, 1935. To this union were born, Patsy Ann, Ivan Junior, and Marilyn Arlene.

Elizabeth went to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa to obtain her teaching certificate. She taught in several country schools in the Decatur County area. After retiring to homes in Tucson, Arizona, Lake of the Pines, Texas, and Avinger, Texas. Donald’s failing health brought them near Marilyn’s family in Red Oak, Iowa. In 2004, Elizabeth moved south, to Joplin, Missouri.

The daily goals she set for herself enabled her to live up to her motto: “If you’re gonna keep a-going, you gotta keep a-movin”.

Preceding her in death were both parents; husband, Donald; son, Ivan; brothers; John Hampton, James Hampton, Martin Hampton; sisters, Marjorie Rush, and Arlene Hubbard. She was the last remaining member of her family’s generation.

Surviving Elizabeth are daughters, Patsy (Ralph) Woods of Hilliard, Ohio, and Marilyn (Dannie) Akers of Joplin, Missouri; grandchildren, Deborah Coy, Hilliard, Ohio, James (Norma) Woods, Casa Grande, Arizona, Ryan (Brandy) Lingner, Branson, Missouri, and Nathan Akers, Des Moines, Iowa; eight great grandchildren, Desiree (Mark) Williams, Brandie (Carl) Rayburn, Anthony (Will) Coy, Zackery, Andrew, and Jessica Lingner, Connor and Briana Akers, six great-great grandchildren who knew her as Nana, as well as many nieces and nephews who affectionately called her Aunt Bea.

Elizabeth was devoted to her family and many friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home with Danny Mullins, Chaplin officiating. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Leon Cemetery in Leon, Iowa.
