Marty Scheurich

Martha Ann McKinney Scheurich of Joplin, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Marty was born March 23, 1926 in Carthage, MO to the late Victor and Faye McKinney. She is also preceded in death by a brother Victor (Dick) McKinney.

She married her loving husband of 68 years, Raymond Edward Scheurich on March 31, 1948 in Benton County Arkansas. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2016.

Survivors include four children, Eddie Scheurich and wife Laura of Lawrence, KS, Greg Scheurich and wife Sue of Joplin, Ann Scheurich Stearnes and husband Steve of Joplin and Steve Scheurich of Seattle, WA. Twelve grandchildren, Lia Scheurich, Corina Scheurich, Spencer Scheurich and wife Natalie, Jeff Scheurich and wife Veronica, Liz Scheurich Taylor and husband Josh, Brian Stearnes and wife Michelle, Sarah Stearnes Gray and husband Ian, Jennifer Stearnes Maffei, Zach Scheurich, Adam Scheurich and wife Aga, Nick Scheurich and Bodhi Scheurich; 12 great-grandchildren. Marty is also survived by a brother James (Jim) McKinney and wife Rachael of Carthage, MO and many nieces and nephews.

Marty was a 1945 graduate of Carthage High School and moved to Joplin at a later date. She was employed by Southwestern Bell at an early age. She was a member of St. John’s Hospital Auxiliary, Twin Hills Golf and Country Club, Twin Hills Ladies Golf Association and The Women’s Golf Association of Briarbrook and a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society.

She was a life-long homemaker, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Marty loved to play golf, host parties, go fishing and throw an occasional firecracker under your chair.

Joint visitation and prayer service will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 18, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin. Joint funeral mass will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Joplin Area Catholic Schools.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
