Lee Dockery

Leland Carl Dockery, age 92, of Lamar, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.

Lee was born February 7, 1924, in Irwin, Missouri, seventh of the nine children of Zella and Edna Mae (Harmon) Dockery. Growing up with an exceptional work ethic, Lee joined the CCC at an early age and was involved in building the Bagnall Dam. In 1943, he was inducted into the Army and served in Greenland during World War II. His civilian career as an auto mechanic spanned over 40 years and he worked for several repair shops and auto dealerships in Nevada, Kansas City, and Lamar, retiring from Ihm’s Chrysler in 1984. An avid outdoorsman, Lee fished and hunted deer, turkey, quail, and small game. In later years, he enjoyed playing cards and the fellowship of family and friends.

On March 7, 1945, at San Diego, California, Lee married the love of his life, Julia Crosson, and they had celebrated nearly 60 years together before her passing on February 16, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Cal, Stan, Howard, and Loren Dockery; three sisters, Minnie Dockery, Reba Owen, and Nadine Walters; and a daughter, Deana Dockery.

Survivors include a son, Terry (Crystal) Dockery of Carthage; a sister, Helen Foley of Diamond, Missouri; two grandchildren, Aaron (Nancy) Dockery, Carthage, and Segren Cagle, Joplin; three great-granddaughters, Shelby Dockery and twins, Katelyn & Kelly Dockery; and a large extended family.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 22nd at St. James Cemetery northeast of Milford, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Irwin Community Church.
