Skip Wolfe, 73, of Neosho, passed away at 6 pm on August 11, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, being held in the arms of his wife on their 54th Wedding Anniversary, surrounded by their two children.
Skip was born December 27, 1942 in McPherson, Kansas, the son of William Lee and Ruth (Lowder) Wolfe. They moved to Joplin shortly after where they lived and he attended school until the 4th grade. He then moved to Neosho where he attended and graduated from Neosho High School. Skip was a member of the first class at Crowder College in 1964, transferring to Pittsburg State University where he received a BS in History and Economics and a MA in High School Administration. Over the years, he wore many hats; he taught history and economics at Neosho High School, 1968-1976 and drove a school bus. He owned and operated Skip’s MFA Service Station, Neosho Meat Marker and Processing, Pop Shoppe, three Quik Skip Convenience Stores, a 200 head cattle ranch and stable of thorough bred that raced at Blue Ribbon Downs and Remington Park. He built and operated Park Place Apartments in Neosho and Tower Road Apartments in Granby. Skip was an avid hunter and supporter of Ducks Unlimited and Quail Unlimited; he loved riding his Harley, playing poker and black jack and racing cars. He was a member of the Monett Masonic Lodge, past Rajah of the Neosho Shrine Club, a member of the Neosho Shrine Hillbillies, Scottish and York Rites and the Gearhead Breakfast Club. He sponsored many adult men’s softball leagues.
Skip and Carolyn J. Thurman were married on August 12, 1962 and Carolyn survives. Additional survivors are a son, William Scott Wolfe of Granby and a daughter, Crystal (Murray Musser) Wolfe of Branson and her children, Karyssa (Chris) Cizek of Neosho; Kassey (Michael Sarten) Krutsinger of Kirbyville; Kallea (Cory) Baty of Springfield; Kade, Kooper, KarRee and Kamden all of Branson; four great granddaughters, Lexi, Kahlan, Marlee and Madelyn; a sister, Jeanne (Kenny) Graham of Neosho; half-sister, Billie Jane Spencer of Kansas City and numerous nieces and nephews.
