Phyllis LaVerne Battin Bendure, age 87, of Waco, Missouri, went to meet the Lord on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. She was born on June 11, 1929 to Delmer Battin and Leona Shafer Battin. Her husband, Jesse Harold Bendure, Jr., whom she married on June 2, 1947, preceded Phyllis in death.
Phyllis was a life-long member of Waco Christian Church. She worked at Elders Manufacturing Co. both in Carl Junction and Webb City for many years all while raising a family of six children. She retired from O & F Machine Products in Joplin. Phyllis was a 1947 graduate of Carl Junction High School.
Phyllis loved to travel, quilt, dance, garden, read, play Bunco and Skip Bo. She also loved attending the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. As Jesse was often heard to say, ‘…if the bus comes by Phyllis is going to be on it.’
Phyllis was also preceded in death by a grandson, Greg Arnold, a sister Joyce Wilson, and two brothers, Jimmie Dale and Delmer Wayne Battin.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Deanna Arnold and husband Steve of Waco, Myrtle Burpo and husband Dean of Webb City; Barbara Nelson and husband David of Riverton; Harold Bendure of Waco; Cheryl Stark and husband Bob of Webb City; Cindy Brown and husband Howard of Joplin. Grandchildren Doug Arnold and wife Tonya, Matt Arnold, Stephanie Agan and husband Rick, Ryan Burpo and wife Hailey, Anthony Nelson, Jason Bendure and wife Stefanie, Logan Stark, Whitney Hamilton and husband Jon, Adrienne Engle and husband Chuck, Seth Cunningham, and Erin Brown. Great-grandchildren Kadynce, Olivia, Max, Georgia, Gracie, and Morgan Arnold, Skyler Reed and husband Mason, Jordan Weston, Brianna Nichols, Joseph Agan, Isabella and Everleigh Burpo, William and Lillian Bendure, Emersyn and Alexandria Engle and Chance Cassidy. Great great-grandchildren Oakley and Blakely Reed and Silas Jones. Sisters Myrtle Lawrence, Helen Gimlen, Melba Watson, Billie Vaughn and husband Ellis, Hope Triplett, and Cecile England.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, August 15, 10am at Waco Christian Church, with pastor Johnie Adkins officiating. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 14, from 2-3pm at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Waco Christian Church or Waco Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
