Jim Swann

James E. “Jim” Swann, age 56 of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Carthage, Mo. following a sudden illness.

Jim was born on November 12, 1959 in Birmingham, Al., the son of James A. and Sadie (Hadley) Swann. Jim graduated from Erwin High School in Birmingham in 1977. He moved to Joplin in 1988, where he was a contractor and owner of Swann Homes. Jim was a Church of Christ Preacher, founded Greystone and Jason’s Place. Jim loved his family and was an avid Alabama Football fan.

He is survived by his children, three sons; Jason Swann of Oronogo, Mo., Justin Swann and wife Rachel of Webb City, Mo., Jared Swann and wife Jennifer of Webb City, a daughter; Jill Elbert and husband Matt of Webb City, his girlfriend; Judy Haines of Carthage, Mo., a brother; Bill Swann and girlfriend Sheila Lyddane of Bardstown, Ky., and four grandchildren; Jaxon Swann, Lincoln Swann, Jaden Swann and Grayson Elbert.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to either MADD or the Brain Injury Association of America in care of the funeral home.

Jim is to be taken for cremation. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16th at the home of Jared and Jennifer Swann, 1161 Cardinal Circle, Webb City, Mo. 64870. Alabama attire is requested, if you wear anything Auburn you will be asked to leave.
