Lida L. Turner, of Joplin, age 82, passed away Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016, at Freeman West Hospital surrounded by her family. Lida was born to Chester E. and Mildred E. (Blair) Austin, April 27, 1934 in Lamar, MO. She attended grade school in Boston, MO, and high school in Lamar, graduating with the Class of 1952. She married David Turner and to that union were born Chris, Jan and Jeffrey. She worked for Freeman Hospital for most of her working career and retired in 1998. She has called Joplin her home for the last 50 years and has been a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. Lida was happiest when her home was filled with family. Her two grandchildren brought her tremendous joy. She will be fondly remembered by all for her sense of humor and quick wit.
Lida is survived by her three children, Chris Turner and wife Tracy of Plano, TX, Jan Shelley and husband Larry of Carl Junction, MO, and Jeffery Turner and spouse Doug Taylor of Dallas, TX; two grandsons, Sam Turner and fiancée Jacy Kirksey of Denver, CO, and Jake Turner of Plano, TX. Also surviving is her sister Sue Craft of Leawood, KS, as well as many nephews and extended family. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother Jim Austin Sr. and a sister Donna Austin.
Funeral services are planned for Friday, August 26th at 11 A.M. in Lamar, MO, at the Konantz Warden Funeral Home. There will be a visitation Thursday from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will be be at the Lake Cemetery in Lamar.
