Dawn Michele Burks, age 44, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at her home. She was born July 14, 1973, in Springfield, Missouri, the daughter of Herb and Cindy (Ford) Meirick.
Dawn was a 1991 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. She was the Supervisor of Human Recourses for the EFCO Corporation in Monett, Missouri. She was very active in the Mt. Vernon Schools and was a member of the St. Susanne Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.
Dawn was a wonderful mother, not only to her own children, but to all. She was commonly referred to as “Mama Burks.”
On November 26, 1993, she married Jerry Burks in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Jerry; four sons, Dylan Burks, Samuel Burks and Isaac Burks all of Mt. Vernon and Taylor Burks and his wife, Elyse, of Columbia, Missouri; one daughter, Madyson Hedgpeth and her husband, Cole, of Racine, Missouri; one brother, Chad Meirick and his wife, Christy, and their daughter, Stevie Marie Meirick; one stepbrother, Aaron Kruse; her mother and stepfather, Cindy and Mike Kruse; her father and stepmother, Herb and Klista Meirick, all of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Aurora, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, at the church. A private family burial will be at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to the Dawn Meirick Burks Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home.
