Robert W. Stahl II (Bob) passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born May 4, 1943 to Robert and Gertrude Stahl of Pittsburg. Bob was a member of the PHS class of 1961 and a graduate of Pittsburg State University with a bachelor of music education degree in 1965, and a masters degree in music education in 1968. He was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and a member of Kappa Kappa Psi band fraternity at PSU and vice president of student government in 1964-1965. He served two terms on the Kansas Music Educators Association board of directors.
Bob taught music in Erie, Hiawatha, and Pittsburg, Kansas for 32 years. He directed many summer musicals for the college. He was also a member of the Pittsburg Municipal Band.
Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He made a yearly fishing trip to Minnesota for the last 35 years. He loved to travel and to eat.
He took the Pittsburg High School Band to the Orange Bowl Parade in 1977, and accompanied the band to Washington D.C. multiple times.
He and his wife Becky enjoyed traveling, taking trips to the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Alaska and all over the United States.
Bob married Becky Duncan Keith on March 19, 2000 and she survives at the home. He is also survived by 5 children including Doug Stahl of Shelby, Ohio, Jocelyn Leonard of Fennville, Michigan, Greg Stahl of Pittsburg, KS, Jackie Coats of Joplin, MO, and Janelle Shellem of Edmond, OK; two step sons, Ryan Keith of Mililani, HI, and Scott Keith of Kansas City, MO; He is survived by 19 grandchildren and the mother of his children Janice Stahl.
As a liver transplant recipient, his wish was for everyone to become an organ donor.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018, at McCray Music Hall on the Campus of Pittsburg State University. Visitation will be held prior to his celebration of life from 5:00 - 6:00. Mr. Stahl’s cremains will be interred at the Timmons Chapel Columbarium on the Pittsburg State University campus at a later date. The family suggests memorials be given to Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity at Pittsburg State University. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
