Doris Smith

Doris Carolyn Smith was born October 27, 1927 in Hebbardsville, Kentucky, one of ten children to Frank and Billie (Hazelwood) Newman. She entered into rest on September 30, 2019 in Neosho, following an extended illness at the age of 91.

Doris worked as a bookkeeper for McDonald Douglas in Tulsa and then lived in California for many years, moving to Neosho in 1988. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting. She was a member of the Abundant Life Church in Neosho. 

Doris married George Thomas Smith in 1951 and he preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1985 and in January 1989, she married Richard J. Smith and he survives. 








Additional survivors include two daughters, Sharon G. Ledgerwood and husband, Phil of Kansas City, Missouri and Pam Hudson of Webb City, Missouri; six grandchildren, Philip Ledgerwood and wife, Alex, Jeremy Ledgerwood, Callie Meyers and husband, Ryan, Casey White and husband, Aaron, Robert 'Tal' Talmadge Hudson and wife, Tracy and Georgia Antillon and husband, Oscar; ten great grandchildren, Gabe, William, Braden, Bailey, Gracie, Cooper, Amelia, Lane, Ozzie and Bo; five stepchildren, Dan Smith and wife, Sandy of Neosho, Daron Smith of Neosho, Dennis Smith and wife, Barbara of Neosho, Diane Holcomb and husband, Fred of Hawaii and Darlene Hurt and husband Jon of California; six step grandchildren, Jessica, Andrea, Jennifer, Carter, Alisa and Justin; three brothers, Ronnie, Buddy and Wyatt Newman and three sisters, Dorothy Jenkins, Shirley Rideout and Jo Ann Boswell. 

 In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a great grandson, George White, son in law, Bob Hudson, two brothers, Jim and Claude Newman and a sister, Martha Lou James.
