Alta May (Hopkins, Mitchell) Davis, age 68 of Burgess, Missouri passed away January 19, 2015 from a longtime illness.
Alta was born February 19, 1946 as the only child to the late Joe Hopkins and Elfie (Betty) Hopkins-Sharron in Salem, Arkansas. She was a longtime resident of Burgess, Mo. but was raised and attended High School in the Kansas City Area.
Alta worked in various jobs throughout her life, but was most proud of the years she spent as the weigh-master for the strip mining industry in Crawford County, Ks. Alta was an excellent role model in teaching her children the value of a hard work - no matter what job she had she always worked hard and gave an extraordinary effort. She was also very proud of her American Indian heritage as a member of the Cherokee tribe. She spent her retired life as a homemaker and caregiver for her mother Elfie.
Survivors include Husband David Davis of Liberal, Mo. Daughter, Lisa (Mitchell) Farr and Husband Jim Farr of Stewartsville, Mo. Sons, Greg Mitchell of Burgess, Mo. and Ron Mitchell and wife Holly of Joplin, Mo. Grandchildren, Wesley Farr, Mathieu Farr, Abigale Farr, Maxwell Mitchell, Samuel Mitchell, and Jackson Mitchell. Great grandchildren, Alexa Farr and Wyatt Farr, many cousins, and friends.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday January 24, 2015 at Liberal City Cemetery, Liberal, Missouri.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park, Joplin, Mo.
