John J. Gambill, age 74, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday January 20, 2015, at his home, following an illness.
John was born on January 29, 1940 in Joplin, the son of the late Paul W. and Jessie (Clark) Gambill. He has been a lifetime area resident. He served in the United States Navy. He married Francis M. Tate in 1968 in Joplin, and together they raised six children. He was a retired Lithographer and also pastor of the Changing Place in Joplin.
John is survived by three sons, Bucky Gambill and wife Teresa, Tulsa, Ok., George Gambill and wife Patricia, Lees Summit, Mo., and Joseph Gambill, Tulsa, Ok.; two daughters, Jessica Hickman, Joplin, and Racheal Whitaker, Gardner, Ks.; one sister, Kay Pyle and husband Charlie, Joplin; twenty-three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Francis Gambill in 2014; one son, Wesley Gambill in 1988; and three sisters, JoAnn Willis, Francis Newton, and Jackie Rodriquez.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Ralph Beasley will officiate.
