Mona Lee McGaw, age 77, of Webb City, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. Mona was born July 18, 1937 in Joplin to Floyd Potts and Elsie Anderson Potts. She graduated from the Joplin High School in 1955 and spent her entire life working. She married Donald McGaw December 14, 1957 and from this union one daughter, Kelly Dawn, was born. After their marriage, they moved to Webb City, MO and loved Webb City football and watching Zach play. Don preceded her in death in 1982.
Mona had worked at Bullard and Bell and for 20 years was the bookkeeper at Joplin Butane. She then worked for Smallwood Butane in Carthage, MO. Mona was the co-owner of Webb City Girls Softball Field on Aylor Street in Webb City. At her home, she owned and operated a ceramic shop where she taught classes and made ceramics. Many of her family members have treasured pieces that she had signed and dated.
Mona is survived by her daughter, Kelly Tatman and husband Lynn of Winter Haven, FL; grandson, Zach Leonard and wife Tabatha of Webb City; granddaughter, Casey Tatman of Florida; great granddaughter, Laken Leonard of Webb City and 3 nieces, Donna Potts, Laura Potts and Lydia Kirkham. Also surviving are special people in Mona’s life: Jeanne Leonard and Chelsey Leonard Parise. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Francis Wrights and brother, Ronald Potts.
Graveside Services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 28th at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Mike Geisert, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 – 7:00 PM at the Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
