Charles A. Teeter, age 93, of Joplin, Mo passed away Tuesday January 13, 2015.
Charles was born August 3rd, 1921 in Commerce, Oklahoma to Charles F. and Alice Teeter. He was a 1939 graduate of St. Peters High School now known as McAuley where he was known for his humor and love of Shakespeare. Charles was WWII Air Force veteran where he served as a radio operator. After his service he was employed by Spencer Chemical Company for 27 years all the while testing his entrepreneurial spirit with multiple business ventures. On May 2nd, 1942 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Howard and together they founded Joplin Fire Protection Company in 1957. Because of their hard work and dedication it has become one of the largest family owned fire protection companies in the United States. He was a member of the Elks Club and Lions Club, of which in 2000, was presented with the Presidents Appreciation Award for his loyal service.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, three sons and their wives, Thomas and Loretta, Rogersville, Mo. and children Kristy Davis and Tommy Teeter, Tim and Linda, Carl Junction, and son Tobias Teeter, Mickey and Martha, Joplin, and sons Michael, Jason and Dustin Teeter and son-in-law Randy Richard, Fort Smith, Ar., and children Brice, Sarah (Tucker) and Oliver Richard. In addition he was blessed with 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. He was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter Susan, his parents and three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Crane, Francis (Tiny) Basye and JoAnn Brown.
A Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 17, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. Burial will be at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday, at the Mortuary with a visitation to follow.
