Evelyn June Morey, 97, of Pittsburg, passed away at 1:25 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2015, at the Via Christi Village, Pittsburg.
She was born June 24, 1917, at Pittsburg, KS, the daughter of Albert and Mary Marquardt. She was a life-long resident. On December 25, 1938, she was united in marriage to James Earl Morey, he preceded her in death on December 13, 2002. June was a manager of the Puritan Dairy for sixteen years. Starting in 1961 she worked for Rodkey's Appliance Store. In November 1966, Mr. Rodkey was killed in a truck/train wreck. She later became part owner with Jim Woods under the store name of Morwoods until their retirement in 1973. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and traveling. June was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, in Pittsburg where she served as a member of the Altar Society. She belonged to Mt. Carmel Auxiliary as a Pink Lady in the hospital snack bar for 27 years.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy Ray Morey and his wife Pat of Pittsburg, KS; a grandson Treyson James Morey; a Granddaughter Heidi Cutnik of Kansas City, MO; and two great-granddaughters; a niece Vicky Kay Stuck of Joplin, MO., and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jack Marquardt.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2015, at Via Christi Village Chapel, Pittsburg, with Father Michael Baldwin as celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Pittsburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the start of the service on Monday. The family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
