Clyda Bailey Gideon entered the presence of her Savior on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Her journey began on October 11, 1930 in Stella, Missouri. She was the youngest of eight children born to Walter and Sarah (Pogue) Ward. Growing up she attended Wanda Schools near Stella.
On December 15, 1947 she married Clinton Bailey. The Baileys resided for decades on their 80-acre farm near Stella where they raised cattle, chickens, dogs, and five children. During these years, Clyda also worked as a custodian and cook at Triway Elementary School. Clyda was known to be a gifted homemaker and an excellent cook. She often showed her love by practicing impeccable hospitality. Her delicious pies and other creations were legendary amongst neighbors, family and friends.
After Clinton passed in 2003, Clyda married Arlie Monroe Gideon on May 19, 2005. They resided near Anderson, Missouri and she cared for him until his death in 2011. From 2014 until 2019 Clyda lived at the McDonald County Living Center in Anderson where she was a favorite among the residents and staff.
Throughout her life Clyda was a vibrant and active soul. She was a 4H leader, a Sunday School teacher and active member of various Baptist churches. She loved southern gospel music and sang in the choir. She served as Secretary of the Newton County Song Convention.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sons Gary and Kenneth Bailey, and all her siblings: her sisters Kathryn Smith, Nadine Pogue, Lucille Merritt, and her four brothers Harlan, Melvin, Dallas, and Ralph Ward.
She is survived by three children: Sharon Brown and her husband Mike of Goodman, Missouri, Carroll Bailey and wife Sue of Goodman, and Danny Bailey and wife Latonia of Neosho, Missouri. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Clyda lived a good life. She will be missed.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton. Pastor Jerry Yarnall will conduct the services. Burial will be at Macedonia Cemetery in Stella.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton.
