Frantine Kay Shepherd, age 78, of Joplin, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at her residence in Joplin.
Fran, daughter of the late Wilson Burl and Frances Christine (Koon) Bradley, was born on January 20, 1941 in San Diego, Ca. She received her Master’s degree in education from Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
She started her teaching career in Overland Park, Ks. She retired after 28 years from Joplin R-VIII Schools as an elementary and reading recovery teacher, including Lafayette, West Central, Irving and Jefferson schools. She continued to work after retirement as a tutor and volunteer within Joplin R-VIII. She was a member of the National Education Association and Southwest Missouri Democrats.
She was member of the St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Joplin serving in the Alter Guild and Transitional Housing Ministry through economic security. She was also Chairman of the service committee and was active in Women of St. Philip’s, also having served on the Vestry. Fran was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her friends.
Survivors include one son, Grant Shepherd, and his wife, Sandy, of Alba, Mo.; one daughter, Amy Shore, and her husband, Chris, of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Kelly Shepherd, Evan Shore, Marybeth Shore and one great-grandson, Sawyer Stegemann.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 10:00 am at the St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Joplin, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Philip’s Episcopal for the Transitional Housing Ministry and may be entrusted to the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory, Joplin.
