She grew up near the Lone Star Church at Sweetwater, Missouri and a little ways up King's Valley in McDonald County, Missouri. She attended school in Stella and King's Valley. It was here in King's Valley that the beautiful redhead met her future husband. Lucille would walk from her home to Big Sugar Creek to see her friend.
One day on such a visit the two girls walked to the store in Beantown just in time to see Harmon and Willie Mustain pulling out in their car. Lucille said, "A second glance was made to see the cute curly headed boys." That day was the beginning of a lifetime love.
Lucille married the cute curly brown haired boy of her dreams, John Harmon Mustain on June 23, 1941 at Bethpage, Missouri and to this union six children were born, Richard, Shirley, Velma, Johnie, Luella and David. Besides working at Emerson Electric, Lucille spent most of her life working side by side with her husband, Harmon, logging and running their sawmill.
After their children were gone, Lucille and Harmon moved closer to Rocky Comfort, Missouri where they gardened, fished and enjoyed time with their family, friends and grandchildren. Lucille's family meant everything to her. She was a wonderful neighbor, a loving mother and grandmother, an avid fisherman and a generous host. She loved family gatherings and socials. She was an amazing cook and loved cooking for everyone. No one ever walked away from her table hungry.
Lucille was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a "Christian" in the true sense. Her love for God and her Savior were as strong as her faith. She would defend them with anyone. Lucille was thrifty, yet generous. She would give whatever she had to help others and never ask for anything in return.
On February 19, 1989, Lucille lost her husband of 47 years. Soon afterwards she moved to Anderson, Missouri where she spent the remainder of her life. Also preceding her in death are her parents; four children, Richard, Shirley, Johnie and David Mustain.
