Mrs. Joann Smith, 75, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday, November 24, 2019, in the comfort of her home, after months of declining health.
Joann entered this life on September 17, 1944, in East Prairie, Missouri, daughter of the late George Patrick and Jennie Lou (Davis) Carrell. Her formative years were spent in Wardell, Missouri.
On March 25, 1961, she was united in marriage to Elmer Lee Smith and to this union three sons and four daughters were born. Besides being a homemaker, Joann worked several years at Emerson Electric in Rogers, Arkansas. She and Elmer made their home in Anderson, Missouri, where they lovingly raised their family. They retired to Grove, Oklahoma, in 1996, to enjoy life on the lake. Elmer passed away on February 17, 2006 and a few years later Joann decided to move back home to Anderson in 2008. She enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, needlepoint projects, gardening and spending time outside in her yard. Joann was a member of the First Christian Church in Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of forty-four years, Elmer Smith; five grandchildren, Lacey Suzanne Smith, Billy DeJuan Mathews, Jimmy Lee Mathews, Michael Lee Brannon and Bubba Parsons; five brothers, Richard, James, George, Howard and Wayne; and three sisters, Ethel, Bethel and Ruth.

Joann is survived by three sons, Ernie Smith and wife, Shelley, of Anderson, Gene Smith and wife, Lori, of Grainola, Oklahoma and Raymond Smith and wife, Jamie, of Shidler, Oklahoma; four daughters, Donna Parsons and husband, Leslie, of Anderson, Shelia Gideon and husband, Jimmy, of Miami, Oklahoma, Debbie Gray of Miami, Oklahoma and Margaret Wagner and husband, John, of Goodman; twenty grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister, Bessie Gosa of Eureka, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Joann will be held graveside on Wednesday afternoon, November 27, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Pineville Cemetery in Pineville, Missouri, with Bro. Bob Holloway officiating. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Eric Smith, Logan Smith, E.J. Smith, Nick Smith, Richard Wagner, Ben Wagner, Ray Cooper and Cody Mathews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
