Joe “Monk” Lynn Nelson, 69, of Pierce City, Missouri entered into eternal rest on Friday November 15, 2019 while at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born in Omak, Washington on June 30, 1950; the son of Patsy (Shiflet) Nelson and the late Joe Vaughn Nelson. He was united in marriage on June 29, 1979 to Diane Lawrence in Miami, Oklahoma; she survives.
He was retired from Mid-West Materials in Joplin.
Monk is survived by his wife Diane; two sons: Travis Nelson (Kristina) of Salisbury, Indiana and Joe Nelson Jr. (Shannon) of Little Kansas, Oklahoma; three daughters: Danette Nelson of Pierce City, Buffy Badley (Ed) of Pierce City, Jeanette Spears of Grove, Oklahoma; five sisters: Sharon Durkin of Monett, Marsha Chapman of Miller, Marilyn Moss of Rogers, Arkansas, Susie Cummings of Grove, Oklahoma, and Karrie Wiseman of Pierce City; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and his beloved dog: Archie.
Monk was preceded in death by his dad Joe Vaughn and one brother: Roy Ingle.
Memorial services for Monk are pending and will be released upon completion.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri.
