Gary Ball

Gary Franklin Ball, Sr., age 78 of Diamond, MO, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 after a long, courageous battle. He lived his life to the fullest and fought hard to the end.

Gary was born February 18, 1943 in Hornersville, MO to James Ball and Lucille Shirfield. He attended Joplin High School, and remained a lifetime area resident. He worked for Carthage R-9 School District as a custodian, where he retired.








Gary married the love of his life, Greta Hood, on October 18, 1963, in Duenweg, MO. Together they built a wonderful life, and a loving family, starting with their three children, Kathy Filarski, Shelley Ball and Gary Ball, Jr. He was a family man, and a great friend to many. He will be missed greatly by all.

In his spare time, you could find Gary deer hunting, fishing, throwing horseshoes, watching stock car races or enjoying banana popsicles, his favorite snack.

Gary is survived by wife, Greta Ball; daughter, Shelley Ball and partner Curtis Robertson of Diamond; son, Gary Ball, Jr. and wife Shelly of Diamond; brother, Larry Ball; grandchildren Justin Filarski, Kevin Filarski, Austin Ball and wife Amber, Kelsey Ball and fiancé Logan Myers, Kaitlyn Eramo and husband Ethan, Breanna Scott and husband Dakota, Jacob Ball and wife Jamie, and Savannah Divine, along with great-grandchildren: Azella Filarski, Allison Filarski, Kevin Filarski II, Adara Ball and Berkley Scott.

He is preceded in death by both parents, daughter Kathy Filarski and husband David; brothers Ronnie Ball and Donnie Ball; sisters Linda Boles and Lisa Faulkner, and best friends Everett Newberry and Bob Renfro.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 9, 2021 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Internment will follow at Diamond Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, August 8, from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Mason-Woodard Chapel.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
