J. Arthur Shipley

James Arthur Shipley, age 80, of Lamar, Missouri passed away August 1, 2021, in Springfield, Missouri.

J. Arthur was born March 2, 1941 in Carmi, Illinois to Claude Arthur Shipley and Wilma June (Endecott) Shipley. On September 5, 1980, J. Arthur married Barbara Sue Petersen in Salt Lake City, Utah.

J. Arthur was the Pastor at the Lamar Living Hope Church of the Nazarene in Lamar, MO. 








He received his Bachelor's of Arts and Christian Theology from Western Baptist Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri; his Master of Theology Degree from Andersonville Bible Seminary in Camilla, Georgia; and his Doctorate of Theology from Andersonville Bible Seminary in Camilla, GA. He was ordained as an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene on July 22, 1999 in Springfield, MO.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Shipley, his four sons; Scott Shipley, Stephen Shipley, Shawn Shipley, and Mike Shipley; his four daughters; Jackie Scott, Sherry Barber, Jodie Barker and Melody Shipley; his many grandchildren, including Stella Shipley and Benson Shipley; one brother; John Shipley; and one sister; Claudia Hennessey. J. Arthur loved his family, his Church, and his Lord.

Preceding J. Arthur in death were his parents, his sister, Judy Brobst and his son, J.B . Shipley.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, Missouri, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, near Columbus, Kanas at 3:00 p.m.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., before the service at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made payable to Lamar Living Hope Church of the Nazarene in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
