Joyce Higman

Joyce Lynn (Bennett) Higman of Sarcoxie, age 68, passed away Sunday morning at Mercy Hospital Joplin. She had been hospitalized for more than two weeks after becoming ill.

She was born Jan. 19, 1953, in Chateauroux, France, to Kathleen J. and Robert T. Bennett, while he served in the Air Force.

Joyce is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Bruce. T. Higman of the home, and daughter, Tanya (Tim) Korff of Sarcoxie.








Other survivors include brother, Mike Bennett and his wife, Wendy, of Springfield; grandchildren Lisa Korff and Christopher Korff of Sarcoxie and Hunter and Emily Higman of Texas, daughter-in-law Jennifer Higman of Texas, nephews Jared Bennett (Erin) of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Brett Bennett of
Johannesburg, South Africa; uncle Gary Bennett and first cousins Lynda Vanni and Robin Sankey all of Seattle, Wash., and her dear friend, Dina Davis, of Springfield.

She also is survived by great-nephews Ashton and Stephen, great-niece, Lily, and many cousins in Washington state.

Joyce L. Higman was predeceased by son, Bruce T. Higman Jr., a brother, Steve, cousin Gayle Loredo and her parents and grandparents.

She attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Sarcoxie and had a gift for talking to friends and strangers alike. She was unselfish and unwavering in her convictions. She was a caregiver and a contributor to the needy.

She was great at baking cakes, cooking shrimp scampi and reveling in the successes of others. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting events and visiting great Mexican food places around the area with her husband and family.

She was a 1971 graduate of Sehome High School in Bellingham, Wash. She and Bruce married May 29, 1972, in Bellingham. They lived in Alaska, Texas, Kansas, Washington, Oklahoma and Germany while he was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, before moving to Springfield, Mo., in 1992 and then to Sarcoxie.

The family will receive friends starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, followed by the funeral service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Minister Wil Meyer officiating.

Interment will be near her son and mother in Sarcoxie Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Missouri
