Ken Mackey

(From Lakin Funeral Home)

Kenneth “Ken” Maurice Mackey, age 77, of Pierce City, MO passed away on Monday August 9, 2021 at Communities of Wildwood Ranch in Joplin, MO.

Mr. Mackey was born in East Purdy, MO June 5, 1944. He was the son of Hurshell and Marie (Walters) Mackey. Mr. Mackey grew up on the family farm and graduated from Purdy High School in 1962.

He met Lorene (Hamilton) of Pierce City on a blind date and they married on November 16, 1962 at Morningside Baptist Church. They lived in Kansas City, Monett & Pierce City before moving to their farm where they would raise a family and call home for the next 55 years just 3 miles north of Pierce City.

Kenneth worked maintenance for MODOT from 1968 until he retired in 2006.

For years Kenneth enjoyed training his dogs and quail hunting, he later joined the Dry Valley Fox Hunter’s Association & enjoyed the fellowship of other hunters while watching & listening to his dogs in full pursuit of the coyote. He was a big fan of St. Louis Cardinal baseball & following Pierce City High School athletics. Kenneth not only attended all practices, home & away games for each of his kids in each of their sports during their time in school but continued to support the Pierce City High School programs for many years thereafter. Kenneth got pleasure from many extra-curricular sports activities, but he would tell you that the best thing he ever did was marry his wife Lorene and was so proud of his entire family!
