(From Clark Funeral Home)Martha Elizabeth Sharp, and twin sister, Mary, were born May 8, 1933 on a farm in North Newton County, Pierce City, Missouri, in the height of the ‘Great Depression’.
Her mother was Eula (Slankard) Rice and father, John Marion Rice. She passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday, August 9, 2021, surrounded by her family and Lord. She joined her beloved husband and best friend, Dan Sharp, who preceded her in death on February 26, 2007, her beloved twin, Mary, and so many other dear family and friends, awaiting her arrival in heaven.
Martha was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Midway High School, class of 1951. She married Dan Sharp on March 15, 1952 in Reno, Nevada. She loved and served her Lord, her family and her country in her essential role as a wife and mother of a career military family for over 40 years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Neosho, serving in numerous roles, including President of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She especially enjoyed the annual apple pie making fund raiser for missions with her CWF friends. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years, and was Past Worthy Matron in 1973.
Martha loved to make beautiful quilts and was a member of the Town & Country Quilt Club, Joplin and the Soft Stichers Quilt Club, Neosho. Most recently, Martha made many wonderful friendships with her fellow Independent Living residents and staff members of The Wildwood Senior Living. She especially loved the ‘puzzle room’ and her special friends who shared her love of puzzles.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude and appreciation to the many wonderful nurses and nurse assistants of Mercy Hospital, Joplin. They brought to life the healing ministry of Jesus through their compassionate care for and about our mother and family during our time there.
Martha is survived by three children, Larry Sharp and wife, Sherry of Bloomington, Illinois, Linda Sharp and husband, David Niebur of Joplin and David Sharp and Tisha Bowman of Neosho; five grandchildren, Lindsay Martin and husband Marty of Decatur, Illinois, Bryan Sharp of Denver, Colorado, Courtney Kaupp of Gridley, Illinois, Torre Vincent and husband, Dustin of Diamond and Zach Sharp of Pierce City; four great grandchildren, Cooper and Hayden Kaupp and Brock and Lane Vincent; two step grandchildren and spouses, four step great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren, all of Minnesota and two brothers, Roy Rice and James Rice. Martha leaves behind many special nieces and nephews, dear friends and her very special Wildwood Senior Living Family.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Clara Mae Aleshire and her most precious ‘twin sissy’, Mary Crider of Carl Junction, Missouri; four brothers, Vernie, Elmer, Carroll and Edgar and her precious great grandson, baby, Calvin James Kaupp.
