(From Parker Mortuary)Mr. Richard Vance Smith, 87, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Richard entered this life on October 12, 1933, in Okemah, Oklahoma, one of six children born to the late Harold and Esther (Keener) Smith. He was raised in Yukon, Oklahoma and was a graduate of Yukon High School.
On August 26, 1961, in Austin, Texas, he was united in marriage to Bonnie June Moss and to this union two children were born, Roger and Paula. Richard and Bonnie retired to Joplin, Missouri, after his thirty-nine-year career with Ford New Holland. During his working years, they resided in Austin, Texas, Mission, Kansas, Carthage, Missouri and Norfolk, Nebraska. Richard was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and was an active member of Earl J. Bruton V.F.W. Post No. 534. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and tending to the needs of his yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of forty-six years, Bonnie June Smith on August 5, 2009; and all five of his siblings, Howard, Ed, Ray, Ralph and Edna.
Richard is survived by his two children, Roger Smith of Joplin and Paula Campbell and husband, John, of Lake Havasu, Arizona; and two grandsons, Justin Richart and Nathan Campbell.
Memorial services are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. Missouri.
