Theresa Hawkins

(From Parker Mortuary)

Theresa L. Hawkins, age 65, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Theresa was born January 12, 1956 in Kansas City, Missouri, daughter of the late Everett Junior Young, and Bonnie Camby of Grove Springs, Missouri. Theresa grew up in Hartfield and Niangua, Missouri and went to Hartfield Schools.

She spent a lot of time in her youth playing different musical instruments, piano, guitar, and drums. She enjoyed playing the drums in her family band, where she played with her parents and siblings, mainly in the Niangua area.

She met her husband, Larry Hawkins in 1977 while running street rods near Springfield. They married and moved to Joplin in 1987 where she was devoted to taking care of her husband and her children. They enjoyed going to the drag strip, and she was especially happy when her grandchildren came along. She enjoyed being in her yard, growing flowers and in her vegetable garden. She was also a talented seamstress that made many outfits for herself and her family. She will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to her father, Theresa was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Larry F. Hawkins, Jr., who passed away on June 25, 2019; a son, Larry “Chip” Hawkins who passed away on February 24, 2020.
