(From Parker Mortuary)Michael Dean Ray, age 33, of Joplin, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 in Joplin after a long battle with addiction.
Michael, son of Sandra (Harris) Ray and the late David Elmer Ray, was born on October 12, 1987 in Joplin.
Michael was known to his family as a gentle giant, with twinkling blue eyes, and a fun giggle that could fill the room with laughter. He was intelligent and excelled at most anything he set his mind on.
Michael tried his best to take the steps to change the course of his life, but ultimately the enemy schemes and outsmarts even the most intelligent individuals. Michael’s love for his family never wavered as he strived to control the disease that confronted him daily.
Michael’s family wants his legacy to be that this obituary might save one person struggling with addiction. If you are struggling from addiction, know that we are praying for you.
Survivors include his mother, Sandra Ray, her companion, John Garrett, of Joplin; his siblings, Chris Ray (Sheralyn), of St. George, UT; Lindsey Howard (Shelby), of Joplin; nephews, Zachary and Brayden Ray, nieces Jodie and Carlie Howard; aunts and uncles, Suzanne Ray, Richard Ray (Jini), Judy Johnston, Larry Ray, Tricia Harris, Barb Gregory (John Page), Susan Robinson (Mark); cousins, Lynn Muse (Don), Jon Ray (Christian), Jacque Burris (Eric), Jenny Stapleford (Allen), Lori Estes, Brandy Patrick (Greg), Ryan Gregory, Stephanie Gregory, Corey Simmons, Mackenzie Oxendine (Damian), Joelee Robinson (Blake Lovan) and her daughter Kynlee, Jaci and Cooper Robinson, Kiah and Kylie Colbert; and numerous beloved extended family members and friends, including his companion Ashley Cook, and her children Alayna Jackson, Aydin Witherspoon, and Aleysha Jackson.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Darrell and Deane Ray, uncle Gary Ray, cousin Leigh Ray, and maternal grandparents, Carolyn Harris, Daniel Warren, and Henry Harris, Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Michael’s birthday, Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. The family will hold a time of fellowship and food at Humphrey Park immediately following services on Tuesday.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
