(From Ulmer Funeral Home)LaVera Gipson stepped into the arms of Jesus, in early morning hours of Sunday, October 17th at the ripe young age of 97.
LaVera was the fourth of eight children born to Ross and Edith (Wesner) Watts on April 8,1924. She was born in Sugar City, Colorado where the family were homesteaders. The Watts family lived in three different communities while in Colorado before heading back and residing in the Carthage and Alba area when LaVera was about 12.
LaVera graduated from Alba High School in 1942. She met & married Chester Gipson on June 9, 1946. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2006, four days after their 60th wedding anniversary. LaVera was a stay at home Mom until her youngest daughter was in high school. At that time, she began working as the cook at the First Baptist Church Little Folks School and poured her food & love into many young children
LaVera is survived by a son Bill Gipson (Tracy) , Shell Knob, MO, daughters Beverly Turner (Larry) and Deb Gipson both of Carthage.
Grandchildren, Beth Gipson, Becky Gipson-Hopper, Ross Gipson (Veronica), Donovan Edwards (Traci), Adam Turner (Jennifer), Andy Turner (Heather) Sarah Gipson (Joe Wyatt). Great Grandchildren, Jacob Schmidt, Ellie Schmidt, Charlie Hopper, John LaBrie, Maria LaBrie, Tagen Rawlins (Michael) Madison Caruthers (Adam), AJ Turner, Jadin Turner, Whitley Turner, Ava Turner, Nora Turner and Graham Turner. One Great Great Grandson, Maverick Rawlins, and a great grandchild to be named in March. Also, two sisters, Leona Suiter and Wilma Hinshaw.
LaVera was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chester Gipson, one son, Don Gipson, brothers Max Watts (infant), Roscoe Watts, Morris Watts and two sisters, Connie Dell, and Iona Murphy.
We would like to thank our Visiting Angel ladies & the hospice nurses & aides of Compassus for helping make Mom’s last few years, weeks & days the best they could be.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday October 20, 2021 at the Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage. The family will gather at the home of Beverly Turner, 2259 Alison St, Carthage.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Gideon’s International in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
