Floyd Southern

Floyd Ellis Southern, 90, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away at 4:04 a.m., Friday, October 22, 2021.

He was born May 20, 1931 at Nashville, MO to John Quincy and Edna Irene (Hunt) Southern. He attended Alba Missouri High School and graduated from Carl Junction Missouri High School.

Mr. Southern served in the United States Army in 1952, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War, and was Honorably Discharged in 1953.








He married Althea L. Cupp on July 27, 1953, when the couple moved to Pittsburg, KS.

Mr. Southern was retired from the Kansas City Southern and Santa Fe Railroads. He also worked for Spencer Chemical.

He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #64 and the 25th Infantry Division Association.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Michael Southern (Kim) of Carl Junction and Steven Southern of Pittsburg; three grandchildren, Ashley DeVoe, Jodie Tirawi and Clay Southern and one great grandson, Ellis Tirawi.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, six sisters and daughter in law, Lori A. Southern.

A graveside service for Mr. Southern is set for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the Weaver Cemetery, Oronogo, MO. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Trinity Baptist Church and/or Souls Harbor of Joplin. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
