(From Parker Mortuary)Betty Arlene Salzer, 85, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Solace House surrounded by family.
Betty was born July 11, 1936 in Carthage, Missouri to the late Perry Edgar and Edna Pearl (Shumate) Swindle. Betty grew up in the Carthage area, graduating from Carthage High School in 1954.
Betty was united in marriage to John Michael “Mike” Salzer on June 5, 1965 in Joplin, Missouri. Together they 56 precious years before her passing.
Betty worked as a teacher’s aide for both the Joplin School District and College View State School. She retired in 2000 after 20 plus years with College View State School. Betty loved to dance, bowl, play tennis and work on crossword puzzles. She enjoyed going the Elks Club on Wednesday night with friends and was and avid sports fan. The Saint Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chief were her favorite teams to follow. She cherished all the memories created with family and friends and loved getting to be Mawsh to Olivia. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by her siblings, Shirley Byrd and husband, Huck, Bobby Sue Griffith and husband, Ross, Billy Jo Watson and husband, Dale.
Betty is lovingly survived by her husband, Mike; daughter Suzi Diane Powell and husband, Thomas Allen; granddaughter, Olivia Rose; together with a host of extended family and friends.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Monday, October 18, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
