(From Parker Mortuary)Rita “Ona” Thomas, 73, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 at the Communities of Wildwood Ranch.
Ona was born October 31, 1947 in Joplin, Missouri to the late John Robert and Mary Lou (Morgan) Thomas. Ona was a lifelong Joplin area resident, graduating from Joplin High School in 1965. Ona received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Missouri Southern State University and her Masters of Education from Pittsburg State University.
Ona was an elementary school teacher, teaching at both the Seneca School District and Webb City School District. She retired from Webb City School District after many years. She had a heart of gold and was very proud of the fact that she could make a difference in her students lives. Teaching was her passion. Ona was also a dedicated member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She cherished all the memories created with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Ona is lovingly survived by her brother, John Mark Thomas and wife, Cheryl of Joplin, Missouri; nephew, Hunter Thomas; together with numerous cousins and a host of extended family and friends.
No formal arrangements are planned at this time.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
