Rusty Knight

Harold Harry Knight III “Rusty”, age 65, Joplin, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Freeman West after battling cancer.

Rusty was born July 31, 1956 in Joplin, Missouri to the late union of Harold Jr. and Janice (Booe) Knight. He grew up in Sedalia, MO for the first eight years of his life. He then moved to Coffeyville, KS until he was 14 years old. 










Rusty graduated from Chanute High School in 1974 and moved to Pittsburg, KS. He was a walk-on for baseball at Pittsburg State University. At PSU he was scouted by the Philly’s and was planning on having a tryout with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but unfortunately blew out his knee. 

Rusty was an amazing musician and loved to play the guitar, sing, and play the keyboard. He performed Packin Up with Mahalia Jackson in Fresno, Calif with 200 voice choir. He was in a host of many bands including; Knight and Daze, Southern Fried, Six Guns South, Smoot Mahuti, Live Wire, and also toured with Doug Stone. His most recent band was The Bobby DeGonia Band. 

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Rusty started his own painting business called, Tristate Painting. He loved to play Fortnite with his grandson and softball with his granddaughter. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He was the definition of the perfect grandpa and would do anything for those two grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Rusty was preceded in death by his sisters, Sandra Lee Knight who passed after one week of being born and Candace Knight-Hawkins who was born February 14, 1963 and passed on October 20, 2007.

Survivors include his daughter, Lindsey Hamilton and husband Kyle; brother, Rick Knight and life partner Jeffrey Rydbom; two grandchildren, Kynlee Brynn Hamilton and Breckyn Kyle Hamilton; cousins, Diana Booe-Drake, Patricia Hempsmyer, Mike and Donna Booe, Layna and Joe Trimmell, Keith Booe; a special cousin and caregiver, Michelle Booe-Johnson; five uncles, Haryln Knight, Norman Knight, Bill Knight, Sonny Knight, and Ed Sanders; two aunts, Norma Knight and Carlene Sanders; along with a host of family and friends.

A celebration by concert will be held in his honor within the next several weeks. The family has requested that friends look on Facebook for that announcement.

Cremation arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
