(From Parker Mortuary)Bobby Lee Garrett, Sr., age 81, Carthage, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, surrounded by family.
Bobby was born December 21, 1939 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, son of the late Lonnie L. Garrett and Helen D. (Hemphill) Garrett.
He grew up in Oklahoma, and moved to Joplin in 1954, marrying Mary Louise Chambers in October of 1956, welcoming three children from that union.
Bob was a successful business owner, operating Garrett’s Produce in Joplin for many years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was attending Risen Ranch Cowboy Church. Throughout his life and career in the produce market industry, Bob served as a mentor and father-figure for many who continue to employ his teachings today. He was a local legend within the industry.
He married Mary Ann Day in July of 1975, gaining 4 bonus children. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed the three F’s: Family, friends, and fishing. He had a great love for traveling, collecting rare coins and currency, and animals of all kinds. He could often be found at Grand Lake or one of his local social clubs visiting with friends. He loved his children and grandchildren fiercely, always inviting them to spend time with him at the lake.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Lansaw; sisters, Shirley Connor, Betty Wehr; a brother, Jim Garrett; and his first wife, Mary Louise Garrett, as well as companion, Barbara Coffman.
Survivors include his son, Bobby L. Garrett, Jr. and wife Debra of Joplin; daughter, Glenda Russow and husband Karl of Hornet, Missouri, son John Miller of Carthage; former spouse, Mary Ann Garrett of Mount Vernon, Missouri; stepchildren, Loretta Gaches (Ronnie) of Duenweg, Barbara Mackie (Billy) of Stotts City, Missouri, Steve Day (Melissa), and Randy Day (Tracy) all of Mount Vernon; 26 grandchildren; and a multitude of great, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Steve Stafford officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Bobby Garrett, III, Garrett Talamantez, Kaden Miller, Eli Cearnal, Will Miller, and Billy Farmer serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
