Bill and Arline Smolick

William (Bill) Carl Smolik (88) and Arline Louise Smolik (87) were taken to be with their Savior on Saturday October 9, 2021.

Bill was born on November 26, 1932 to Joseph and Dorothy Smolik of Chicago, IL. Arline was born on August 14, 1934 to Joseph and Gladys Willette also of Chicago, IL.

Bill and Arline were joined in marriage on July 3, 1952 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL and celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. 








They are survived by three children: William (Bill) Smolik and his wife Joy of Lowell, IN, Kimberly Johnson of Joplin, MO, and Robert (Bob) Smolik of Bloomington, IN.

They have five grandchildren- Jesse Smolik, married to Amy, Lucas Smolik, Kayla and Nicole Smolik, and Madalyn Johnson. They have one great grandson, Jameson, son of Jesse and Amy.

Bill served in the United States Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Illinois Bell Telephone after starting there as an installer and working his way up to management and later security within the company. He enjoyed wood working, creating stained glass pieces, and was an avid reader.

Arline, aside from being a homemaker and mother, enjoyed ceramic sculpture and sculpted countless people’s children from photos for their families. She ran her business from home and showcased her work at many art fairs in Indiana and Illinois. She also loved gardening and enjoyed volunteering her time as a Master Gardener.



Bill and Arline were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin, MO. Memorials can be given to the church at 2616 Connecticut, Joplin, MO 64804.
