(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Betty Ruth Hopkins Haner, age 83, passed away at 7:05 am, Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the home of her daughter at Holiday Island, Arkansas following an illness.
Betty was born May 28, 1938 in Picher, OK. Her parents were Clyde and Mable (Durham) Hopkins. She had lived in the Baxter Springs- Galena are all of her life.
She graduated from Baxter High School with the class of 1956. Betty was a nurse aide at both Joplin, MO hospitals before working in, owning and becoming administrator of 2 local nursing homes; Quaker Hill Manor, Lowell, KS and Galena Nursing and Rehabilitation, Galena, KS. She dedicated her life to caring for others.
She married William Charles Haner (bill, or Wm C.) November 22, 1957 in Galena. They lived their married life on West 21st in Galena where Bill was born and where he passed away April 6, 2020 after 62 years of marriage.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Bobby Dale Hopkins (her twin) Patrick Henry Hopkins, John Paul Hopkins, Earnie Lee Hopkins and Edger Dewitt who died as a toddler from pneumonia.
She is survived by one son, William Charles “Billy” Haner, Pittsburg, KS; one daughter, Sherry Albright (Danny), Holiday Island, AR; 3 grandchildren, Tori Danley (Rusty), Trevor Jacob Albright and Tylor Joe Albright; 4 great-grandchildren, Destiny Gandy, Danijo Gandy, Myka Danley and Jacob Danley; and her younger sister, Daphne Webster, Galena.
She was a marvelous mother to Sherry but her primary role was to care for their special needs son, Billy. She created an amazing world where he was safe, loved, and forever surrounded by her protection. New Hope, Pittsburg, KS has taken over that role as provider and protector.
She was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena KS for cremation. No services are planned.
Betty touched many lived during her long – full life and she will be missed.
