Darlene Vice

Wilma Darlene (Lammey) Vice, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2022, with her family at her side. Darlene resided in Carl Junction, MO, with her husband Don.

Darlene was born in Chetopa, Kansas, on August 25, 1937. She attended grade school in Crestline, KS., and high school in Columbus, KS. She also attended Missouri Southern State College, and for several years served as the elementary school secretary at the Carl Junction R-1 School District. 








She was later employed at Empire District Electric Company, where she met her husband, Don. The two were wed on June 13, 1977 in Carl Junction, MO.

Darlene was a member of the Joplin First United Methodist Church, where she served in many ways. Throughout the years, she served on the Mission Committee, and organized the annual Valentine’s Party, Christmas Brunch, and Ladies Sunrise and Sunset.

Darlene loved her family and was blessed with a great number of friends. She loved to travel. Some of her most memorable trips were to Scotland, Thailand, Malaysia, Colorado, Mexico, and Branson, MO. One of her most recent cherished trips was going to see her family in Texas.

Darlene also loved working in the garden and canning lots of tomatoes, green beans, salsa and corn which all the family enjoyed on many occasions.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Cleo Lammey, brothers Maurice and Marvin Lammey, and sister Delores (Lammey) Timmerman.

She is survived by her husband Don of 44 years; daughters, Debbie Fry (husband J.D.) of Columbus, KS, and Rochelle Harper of Phoenix, AZ; sons, Dr. Steve Hurlbert (wife Terri) of Weatherford, TX, and Bob Vice (wife Kathy) of Purdy, MO; sister Nadene McAllister of Carl Junction, MO; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Contributions can be made out to the American Cancer Society.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 7, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Joplin.
