Lonnie Heckmaster

Lonnie “Willis” Heckmaster, age 67, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 29, after a nearly five-year battle with Mesothelioma. 

Lonnie was born October 7, 1954, in Carthage, Missouri the son of Willis Heckmaster, and Ruby (Kimberlin) Heckmaster. He had fond memories of attending LaGrange School, Carthage Schools and graduating from Jasper High School in 1972. 

In 1974, Lonnie graduated from Crowder College with an Associates of Art Degree, Business Ag Major. After being offered a position by a well-known farm services company, he entered their management training program and then worked in numerous communities including Carthage, Mo. 








In 1993, Lonnie also received a diploma from The Graduate School of Banking Southwestern Methodist University. 

He married Terri Isenmann on May 9, 1981. Lonnie enjoyed the simplest pleasures caring for his lawn, the call of a bird, watching wildlife, traveling, the changing of the seasons, but most of all his family.

Lonnie made a mark and left footprints in our world. He will be missed by many, especially his family. Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of nearly 41 years, Terri Heckmaster, of Carthage; one son Dustin Heckmaster, and his wife Cathy, grandchildren, Addison and Owen of Ashland, Mo; a sister, Eva Cook and husband Larry of Ozark, Mo; a sister, Rosa Rogers and husband John of Liberty Missouri; several nephews and nieces and their children. Lonnie chose to name Caden and JaLynn Hoover as an honorary niece and nephew.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Ruby Heckmaster of Carthage, and a sister, Barbara Hensley, and her baby.

In accordance with Lonnie’s request, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Knell Mortuary in Carthage Mo. A Memorial/Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 9 at Carterville Christian Church with Robin Sigars officiating. In lieu of flowers, Lonnie’s chosen recipient of memorials are the Jasper County Youth Fair, Inc., or Art Central of Carthage.
