Velma Deloris Evans, age 86, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2016, in Joplin, Missouri.
Velma was born in Shaders, Virginia, on June 13, 1930, to the union of the late Edward and Lyda (Shrader) Brewster. She was the third of nine children. Velma was a dedicated homemaker. She was also a poet and had several pieces published.
On May 26, 1951, Velma married her devoted husband, Garfield Evans, in Pearisburg, Virginia, and they had six children together. Garfield preceded her in death on June 4, 2013 after sixty-two wonderful years of marriage.
Also preceding her in death is a brother, Kyle Brewster; two sisters, Margaret D’Agnostino and Ima Smith; and two grandsons, Joshua Yager and Daniel Berryman.
Velma is survived by three sons, Mark Evans, Gary (Jan) Evans and David Shrader; three daughters, Krystal Berryman, Robin Dutra and Vicki Glasgow; a brother, Wayne (Stella) Brewster; three sisters, Jewel Clark, Charlotte Collins and Brenda (Jim) Wintermute; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Velma will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Chaplain Jack Betts officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Mark Evans, Clinton Evans, William Evans, Adam Dillon and Cabyn Dillon.
