Gerry Bagby

(From Parker Mortuary)

Geraldine Ruth (Armstrong) Bagby was born on June 22, 1928 to Lester Lee and Emma Louise (Hamm) Armstrong. Gerry as she preferred passed from this life on July 2, 2019 at 4:20 p.m. at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Gerry’s father worked on gas pipelines as a supervisor so they moved with his job. She attended schools in Missouri, Texas, Nebraska, Kansas and Wyoming. After graduation from high school she returned to attend the Joplin Junior College where she met Bob. She married Robert Lee Bagby on May 1, 1947 in Arkansas. After trying different locations they settled down on a 123 acre dairy farm in Redings Mill. Gerry and Bob owned and operated the R.L. Bagby Dairy for many years delivering Grade A raw milk to homes in Joplin.

Besides helping work on the farm, Gerry worked at several businesses including the office of Dr. George Chesney. She kept busy by raising a garden, canning and chauffeuring her four kids to school functions at Seneca. Gerry was a huge St. Louis Cardinal fan. If the Cardinals were not on television she would be looking for the Kansas City Royals. She loved almost all sports including ice skating and basketball.

Gerry was a member of South Joplin Christian Church for 70 years. Until her health problems prohibited her, Gerry was an active member of the CWF at the church helping to make pies and visiting the shut ins. Members of the CWF continued to include her with cards, calls and flowers at the holidays. Gerry’s family wishes to thank the CWF membership for their kindness and friendship over the years and asks for any members attending the service to be seated together as an honored group.

The most important things in her life were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She loved her family more than anything.

In addition to her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by her husband Bob on April 20, 2008; a sister Dorothy Bereman and two brothers, Robert Armstrong and Thomas Armstrong.

Gerry is survived by her four children, Kathleen Bagby, Karen Royer, Thomas Bagby (Sabrina) and James Bagby (Darla); five grandchildren, Jennifer Crosswhite (Glenn), Wednesday Arend, Rob Babgy (Erica), Kristen Bagby and Heather Bagby Ruiz (Sergio); eight great grandchildren, Ronnie, Kendall, Lyndsey, Justin, Marley, Lily, Lincoln and Will; four great great grandchildren, Gehrig, Mattie, Millie, Kenlee and another due in August.

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 8, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Ron Crow officiating. Burial will be at Crocker Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kansas.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
